Boscheuvel, since 1656
The oldest garden story in Cape Town
Long before Bishopscourt had a name, it had this one. Jan van Riebeeck established a farm on the green slopes behind Table Mountain and called it Boscheuvel. He hedged it with wild almond; that hedge still grows next door, in Kirstenbosch. Three and a half centuries on, Boscheuvel is a six-bedroom villa on the same hillside, redesigned by the architects Matter Studio in curved timber, glass and stone, set between the botanical garden and the mountain.
The original by Don Albert of Sound Space Design, reimagined by the architects Matter Studio. The home unfolds through panoramic glass that frames the garden, the pool and the slopes beyond. An open-plan kitchen anchors the living space, and a curved staircase carries the Willowlamp chandelier up to the walkways above.

Terraces, shaded lounges, and the social front door of the home
Cooking together happens outside: a custom-built Argentinian grill, the Green Egg for smoking, a pizza oven, and a long table on the terrace with the mountain at the end of it.
